The Tale of Despereaux is an upcoming comedy, adventure, animated feature film directed by Robert Stevenhagen and Sam Fell in production with Alison Thomas and Gary Ross. The 100 minute movie is scheduled to be released by Universal Pictures on 19th December, 2008.

The movie is based on the novel ‘The Tale of Despereaux’ categorized under the category fantasy by Kate DiCamillo that was published in 2003. ‘Small Mouse Big Dreams’ is the tagline of the movie which is written by Gary Ross, Chris Viscardi and Will McRobb. The movie stars Emma Watson, Matthew Broderick, Robbie Coltrane and Dustin Hoffman etc.

Despereaux is a mouse who is very odd in himself as he was in love with the princess with other likings like beauty and light. Because of his love for the princess, he is thrown in the dungeon of the castle where it is full of darkness. Trying to change his own fate, he starts his quest to escape the darkness and the castle.

The rat is helped by two other characters as well, one rat who reads books in spite of eating them and a girl who has cauliflower ears and is a servant. Come this December to help Despereaux escape the castle to be free and help him to take his revenge for the intrigue.
