I’ve been noticing lately that skin bleaching has been popping up in conversations in regards to beauty – and I think like our perception on body image, our perception on skin color should reflect the same attitude – you should treat your body with care and be try not to conform to what you think everybody’s standards are. Obviously Hollywood’s standards are high in regards to weight and look at what it’s doing to actresses.
Don’t think that lighter is always better. However, I shouldn’t talk because I’m guilty of thinking this way to, but vice versa. I have fair skin and wish I was darker, at least had olive skin, not porcelain white. I even had an ex-boyfriend who used to call me Casper, and I became so self-conscious that I began going to tanning salons – which are HORRIBLE for you! It took a long time to be comfortable in my skin – and still to this day (especially in the winter time) I have to remind myself that I’m beautiful no matter my skin color. That it’s okay to be pale, fair, or whatever you want to call it.
